Taps

Most drips are a worn cartridge or washer and it's a cheap fix. Some are a tap that's been on there twenty years and will shear the moment you put a spanner near it — we'll tell you which yours looks like before we start, so you can decide between repairing and replacing.

Showers and valves

Thermostatic valves that have stopped holding temperature, mixers running hot and cold when someone opens a tap, screens that need re-sealing. If it's a pressure problem rather than a valve problem, that's a different conversation and we'll have it with you honestly.

Cylinders

Cylinder swaps, immersion elements, leaking connections and the pipe work around them. Photos of shower and towel rail work are on our work page.

Outside taps

Straightforward to add in most houses — teed off an existing cold feed with an isolator inside so you can drain it down before a frost. Half a day, usually.

Worth knowing

Unvented (pressurised) hot water cylinders need a specific qualification to work on. Tell us what you've got when you ring and we'll be straight about whether it's a job for us or one we should point you elsewhere for.

Common questions

Is it worth repairing a dripping tap or should I replace it?

If the body is sound and it's just a cartridge, repair it — it's a fraction of the cost. If it's an old tap that's corroded onto the pipe, replacing is often less work than fighting it. We'll look and tell you which yours is.

My shower goes cold when someone flushes the toilet. Can you fix that?

Usually yes. It's normally a pressure balance issue and a thermostatic valve solves it. Occasionally it's a bigger problem with how the house is plumbed, in which case we'll explain what's actually involved before you commit to anything.

Can you fit an outside tap?

Yes, and it's one of our quicker jobs. We put an isolating valve inside so you can shut it off and drain it before winter — worth having, because an outside tap that freezes will split and you'll find out about it in the spring.
